What is your job title?
Regional Supervisor – EMEA, Meta Technical Production

How would you describe your job to someone outside of the industry?
I’m an operations supervisor, working with our AV team across the EMEA region to set and maintain standards in our virtual, hybrid and in person event delivery on site at Meta.

How did you get into what you do now?
I started as an assistant in a recording studio initially, and began working as a live sound engineer soon afterwards, freelancing for most of my career. I joined the team at Meta as an AV technician in late 2017 and it has been the steepest and most rewarding learning curve of my career. I feel lucky to have played a part in growing our service here over the last 4+ years.

What is your favourite part of your job?
First and foremost it is working with our team – they are great people and exceptional technicians. It is a privilege to support such a talented bunch! I would also say that the personal development and technical training opportunities available to us have had a huge impact for me.

What books should I be reading?
I have read a lot of books around leadership and one of my favourites is “Creativity, Inc.” by Ed Catmull. There’s a real focus on creating space for technical innovation and creativity – plus the history of Pixar which is a bonus for a fan like me.

What advice do you have for someone new to the industry?
Be open and always on the lookout for opportunities to learn from the people you work with. Most technicians worth their salt are incredibly eager to share their knowledge with those who show interest.
