Stop the Clocks – Dreamtek in 2016
23 December 2016
December 16, 2016 by Gemma Christie in All

Santa Claus wearing virtual reality goggles, on a red background. Christmas.

Well with the year drawing to a close we all know what everyone was waiting for in November, yes the John Lewis advert! In my opinion the 2016 advert didn’t disappoint. Instead of the usual emotional roller coaster that it sends you on and leaves you crying at the end full of joy or thought for the lonely man on the moon. This year just gives you a warm happy boost to see animals having fun at Christmas. Buster the star of the advert is found bounding around on the child’s trampoline on Christmas morning. What’s not to like about that?

However this year John Lewis took its Christmas advert to a whole new dimension and released a virtual reality version of the snowy garden on Christmas Eve. It uses 360 degree Oculus Rift technology and stands you in the middle of the little girls Christmas present, the trampoline on Christmas eve and where you find yourself jumping alongside the an adventurobuster-on-trampolineus pair of foxes, a bouncing badger, a summersaulting hedgehog and an energetic squirrel.
Towards the end you start to hear the jealous boxer barking and wanting out into the garden to play too as the woodland creatures scurry off into the garden bushes.

John Lewis’ flagship store on Oxford Street, London and a selection of other stores around the country, have set up virtual reality screening areas to offer customers the experience. It is also available to watch on You Tube and on headsets like Oculus Rift and Google Cardboard.
